The New Orleans Black Chorale specializes in performing music by African American composers and is especially dedicated to the preservation and performance of American Negro Spirituals. In addition to the annual Christmas concert, the Black Chorale also presents an annual Black History Concert and performs in venues throughout the New Orleans region.

NOBC Director, Big Easy Lifetime Winner, interviewed on WWNO

Ware is this year's Big Easy Classical Lifetime Achievement Award Winner.

Dr. Ware is the Xavier University of Louisiana Keller Family Foundation Endowed Professor in Arts & Humanities.
He teaches voice, conducting, vocal diction, vocal literature and pedagogy and is the conductor for the Xavier Concert Choir. He has also been the director of Opera Theatre at Xavier.
An accomplished composer, on March 1, 2009 he premiered "Virtue on the Mountain Top," written in honor of the newly elected President, Barack Obama. Dr. Ware has been honored for his community work by the friends of the Amistad Research Center, the local Links Chapter and the Gambit "Big Easy Classical Music Awards. He has served on the Advisory Boards of the New Orleans Symphony Chorus and the Louisiana Vocal Arts Chorale. He has membership in the American Chorale Director's Association and the National Association of Teachers for Singing. He was recently elected to a 3-year term as a National Network Board member of the Lilly Fellow Program in the Humanities.

NOBC Lightens Up!
When The New Orleans Black Chorale sings at the Black History Concert on Sunday February. 28, the audience can expect the usual creatively arranged classical choral pieces and negro spirituals, but this year there's more! In addition to their usual repertoire, expect to hear a little jazz and more! Ok that's your sneak peek! Join us on Feb. 28 at 5pm at Dillard University's Lawless Memorial Chapel for an evening you won't forget!

NOBC Director to Recieve Classical Arts Award
Dr. John E. Ware, director of the New Orleans Black Chorale will recieve the Big Easy
Entertainment Award's Classical Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement. The award
will be presented in March at the Big Easy's Tribute to the Classical Arts.
Ware has been the chair of the Xavier University Music Department where he
conducts the concert choir and opera workshop. He has been the conductor and
musical director of the New Orleans Black Chorale for most of it's 30 year history.
